"It's This Or Do Housework!"

Meet Judith Brodnicki. She is a local resident of Omaha and a graphic artist. She currently works at Offutt AFB preparing graphics for use in classroom training, as well as part time at Village Stationary in Countryside Village (adjacent to String of Purls) preparing ads, invitations, and other stationary items. She is often the creative source behind String of Purls logos, advertisements, and mailings.

She started knitting in 4-H...sometime around seventh grade! Losing interest in stright needles, she dropped the hobby for several years. She picked it back up when she took Becky's sock knitting class at String of Purls. Between socks and circular needles, she was hooked! She's been knitting ever since. Of course, then she took a yarn dyeing class and was instantly hooked on that as well... She dyes yarn, she knits socks, she designs patterns...she does it all but the cleaning! And who could blame her? We're so happy to be able to share her passions with you!

Check out this beautiful "Summer Sunner" pattern using King Tut yarn. Many of her sock patterns are for sale in the store. Be sure to check out the “Socks” pattern binder next time you visit. If you want to try socks but are not sure where to start, Judith's Sock Queen Guide is perfect. It walks you through the process "step by step" with color diagrams. It's available as a PDF download on our website. Do you have a child or grandchild graduating or heading off to college in the fall? Just in time is the "Go Team! Pillow" pattern. What better project to take with you to the Stitch N'Pitch event at Rosenblatt Stadium.

artisticCharms by Cheryl Harms

artisticCharms...was created by Cheryl Harms, an Omaha resident and a local artist featured at String of Purls.

You can purchase Cheryl's shawl pins from String of Purls. These beautiful pieces of jewelry are created using handcrafted glass focal beads and recycled copper. Each pin is individually crafted and each bead is uniquely designed from glass. They are a must have for any shawl you plan to make or already own! Just choose the colors you’d like in your shawl pin bead and she’ll make it. If you are ordering yarn from us and wish the pin to match that yarn, let us know. She’ll create a pin specifically for that yarn. Cheryl also makes stitch markers which she calls "Needle Jools." Just imagine! You can have a special stitch marker to match your current project. They can also be used for zipper attachments, keychains, or scissor ornaments. Stop in to see the current selection.

Cheryl describes these dazzling masterpieces: "Many have a very organic feeling and are very freeform in nature though they seem in the photos to conform to traditional concepts of what jewelry should be. They are all crafted with care and the desire to share my vision of the beauty the world has to offer. My ultimate goal of my art is to share a glimpse into my thoughts on the beauty of the world around us with the hope that my work, perceived through my eyes, will touch the soul of someone needing some point of inspiration."

Order your one of a kind shawl pin today. Glimpse the world through an artist's eyes and be inspired!
